Help us find a new home for the skatepark at Playland 43rd Avenue. Sign up for the email list to get the latest news and events to help advocate for the skatepark. The email list will be at the skatepark during the event.
After 6 years of fun and adventures, Playland will close and make way for the Shirley Chisholm Village Educator Housing project (SCV). In partnership with SFUSD and the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development, MidPen Housing is developing SCV. The project will provide affordable housing to low- and moderate-income households and will prioritize SFUSD educators and district employees. SCV is expected to start construction in August 2022 and complete construction in Summer 2024.
We have built friendships and memories under the pavilion, playing basketball, skating, at ping-pong tournaments, during art classes, or picking up veggies from the garden.
To celebrate 6 years of successful programs at Playland, the Planning Department will host a special event on Saturday, May 7th from 11am – 1pm at Playland.
Playland Time Capsule
Bring your memories of Playland! We are looking for a souvenir, an object, a special something that you have and would like to save for future generations of residents. Something that can become an archeological find of the wonderful place that has been Playland. Your special treasure will be included in the Playland Time Capsule, installed at the new Shirley Chisholm Village.
Objects could be: photographs, letters, postcards, small objects like buttons, a small object that fits in your hand, a flash drive with saved photos. If your object is bigger than your hand, take a picture and bring it to the closing party.
What not to bring: No food, liquids, plants, or living things that can decompose.
Bring your contribution to Playland at the closing ceremony on May 7, or for later entries please mail to:
María De Alva , 49 S Van Ness Ave, Suite 1400, San Francisco, CA, 94103
Submission Details
Drop-off: May 7 at Playland at 43rd Avenue

ABOUT: Carlo Cyphers
Carlo is a doodler, drawrer and a dashingly debonair live artist from Sacramento. He is inspired by his environments wether in the middle of a craft fair in the city to a secluded hillside in the mountains. His current work is a call back to what he loves to do most which is spending hours doodling.
ABOUT: SANTI
I’ve been doing art for the last 10 years of my life. A lot of my art is about my own self expression, I don’t have many friends ( but that has started to change) and I’ve always felt isolated and trapped and never able to express myself to others the way I would like without feeling some type of resentment or bias from them , even from my own family. Which has taken a toll on my mental health. The only thing I had to express myself was my art, I began finding comfort in sharing my experience through paintings and drawings, being able to tell a story without saying a word. Allowing the audience to find their own meaning in my work, while overcoming my own demons and struggles.
